Dear reader,
This month's topics are about doing what we can where we are to affect tomorrow in a good way. How can I make transformations at work? I'm at a conference - what should I do? In this newsletter, we apply it to engineering and quality. It's also a broader theme.
Plus, we nod to childhood toys - what did we learn then that we can apply to today?
I hope you enjoy these stories, articles, and conversations and gain some inspiration to try something new or approach something in a new way.

Cultivating a Culture of Craftsmanship within Quality Systems |
A peer transitioned from an industry filled with craftspeople to one driven by assembly processes and quality systems. He felt that, in his old job, people were more innovative and forward-thinking, and he wanted to foster that in his new job. He wanted to cultivate a culture of craftsmanship.
Cultivating a craftsmanship mindset within a manufacturing company requires deliberate efforts, which involves empowering people.
There is a parallel with the crafts and tradespeople and quality systems. And we can empower people who work within a quality system to be innovative and lead.
I talk more about this in this new podcast episode.

The Mighty Power of Mini Reports |
When you perform analysis and share it with others to make a decision, do you sometimes just send the file with a blurb in an email? Only to not quite remember what you did later, when you need it most.
There's a simple, relatively fast thing to do: a Mini Report. And it provides so much more than just jogging a memory.
Mini reports are a valuable tool for communication in engineering. By using them, engineers can enhance team collaboration, streamline decision-making, and provide mentorship opportunities to junior colleagues.
In this podcast episode, we talk about: • Importance of maintaining records for future reference • How mini reports improve team communication • Elements every mini report should contain • Benefits of organized documentation for teams • Role of mini reports in mentoring junior engineers • Potential for using mini reports in professional presentations

Are we ever too old, really?
I'm an aunt to little ones, and I committed to a once per month gift subscription that will last all of 2025. The gifts center around the Curious George television show that aired on PBS. Each month, they get a DVD and something extra special to go with it, based on the episodes. This is an aunt and uncle Deeney subscription only! We're putting together fun things for them every month.
Needless to say, my thoughts have been back to toys and things I liked when I was little. I can still relate it to engineering, design, and quality, though!
I pulled a podcast episode from the archive that is still important today. And a nod to when I actually looked forward to a little more winter and hoped a certain critter would see his shadow.

Navigating Development with Lego Wisdom |
What if the secret to unlocking successful quality tool use lies in the colorful chaos of Lego bricks?
In this archive episode, transform your perspective on quality tools by drawing parallels with "The Lego Movie" characters, Emmett and Wildstyle.
Emmit religiously follows blueprints.
Wildstyle is imaginative and builds with spontaneity.
We'll explore seven distinct ways to leverage quality tools, helping you discover which approach—structured or creative—aligns with your unique style and project needs. Listen to the episode and find extra info, here.
Who are you like most often: Emmit or Wildstyle?
